William will return to Arkansas in August and will begin making club visits in September. Below is an exerpt from Kyle's final report. (Kyle is on the far left in the photo)
1) Describe your academic achievements and discuss how this experience will further your pursuits:
When I leave Bangor, Wales, I will have a M.A. in Literary Studies. I should graduate with distinction (if my dissertation is well received). I also received the Danby Prize, for having the highest marks in my course this year. As one who plans to work in higher education, either as a professor or an advisor, this degree has given me the necessary qualifications to pursue doctorate work that will prepare me for an auspicious teaching career. If I do not pursue a PhD, I will still be a more effective and qualified teacher on every level as a result of this experience.
I will also use this space to discuss another achievement, although it does not relate to academia. I joined the University of Wales, Bangor basketball team, which provided the opportunity for me to stay “fit,” as they say in Britain, and, more importantly, to make friends outside of the classroom. To shorten what could very well be novel (perhaps it will be in the future!), I will summarize: in May, we won the national championship, what is called the Welsh Cup. This was a feat in itself but more impressive when one considers that Bangor is a Division II school, competing primarily against much larger and more affluent Division I schools. (You will find a picture attached!) Of course, the standard of basketball is not commensurate with the standard in America—to be honest, it is not even close—but I would have no qualms with challenging the Duke Blue Devils or the Kentucky Wildcats!
