Rotary Youth Exchange student Diego Salgar is shown with his first host family, the Marc and Jo McCain family, when he arrived in Little Rock on August 16. Diego is from Colombia and will stay with the McCain family for approximately three months. Diego is being hosted by the Arkadelphia Rotary Clubs.
Members from the Rotary Clubs of Arkadelphia met Diego at the airport on Tuesday night along with the McCains. He was scheduled to arrive at 5:36 pm but after several delays the group was happy to finally meet Diego around midnight.
The most powerful force in the promotion of international understanding and peace is exposure to different cultures. The world becomes a smaller, friendlier place when we learn that all people regardless of nationality desire the same basic things: a safe, comfortable environment that allows for a rich and satisfying life for our children and ourselves. Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to meet people from other lands and to experience their cultures. This plants the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding. (From the Rotary International website.)
